Sedile square - Corato

It is named “chiazze du segge” in dialect language by Coratini and this name means place where citizens could meet and discuss about justice, business, politics.  The square had always been the place where justice was practised, there still are many marks that show its public function: the low reliefs on the face of Palazzo Gioia depicting the pan balance used by judges during public trials. Indeed the old building rises up on the border of plaza  was the headquarter of Old trial court of the city and nowadays it houses the peace officer office at the first floor  and the tourist office at ground level.
